The Rise of Kyoshi
Auth : FC. Yee w/ Michael Dante Dimartino
No Spoilers – you gotta go read it!
If you watched Avatar the Last Airbender and were immediately enthralled by Kyoshi’s character, you’re in good company. I obsess over strong characters, and Kyoshi is that and so much more. What molded her into the ruthless stoic leader of ATLA?
She had no choice.
This book is the beginning of Kyoshi’s self discovery journey. An orphan discarded by the world on the brink of starvation rescued into a life of servitude. But the day came when her true identity as the Avatar revealed itself to her. The responsibility of keeping the peace among the four nations would fall on her shoulders.
The tension that builds up is so well written that I couldn’t put the book down, hanging on to every detail. I kept gasping in disbelief at the plot twists. It is definitely for a young adult audience due to some of the violence.
I definitely recommend this book (and can’t wait to read the rest of the series). I am a sucker for character development and boy do we get that here. I loved the unusual characters. Just when you thought you knew them, they would do something wild to leave your jaw on the floor.
